Change Your Language – Change Your Business

One of the easiest ways to change your business (and your life) is to change your language. The way we talk to ourselves and others influences everything from our mood to our beliefs. By changing our language we can lower our resistance to doing things we don’t like and increase our motivation to act in the short term.

The fact that I don’t like to exercise is probably not a rare characteristic. But like many, once I get to the gym or onto my exercise bike, the hard part is usually over. Consequently, in my calendar I used to refer to the gym as “Brian Time” that I associate with disconnecting, clearing my brain etc. I refer to riding my exercise bike as “watching TV” since this is something I consider a treat.

Here are some examples to stimulate your own ideas:

Change “I have to” to “I choose to” to get a sense of control

Change “asking for the business” or “following up” to “collecting money”

Change “prospecting” to “looking for gold”

Change “forming a habit” to “making my life easier”

I could go on and on, but see what you come up with. This really is powerful stuff.
